The Entire Process: From Inspiration to Production

A quick how-to guide for turning your Moodboards into real garments to be sold in retail stores around the country.

Step 1: Create a Moodboard

Create a Moodboard that will be used to inspire your next Collection. You can go ahead and get started with your Moodboard by going to "My Workspace" and clicking "Moodboards".

Create Moodboard

Tip

Once your Moodboard is complete, you can select “Action” to publish this Moodboard to your Portfolio for the world to see. If applicable, you may import this Moodboard into an existing Collection as well. To find more tips, please read our Moodboards article.

Share Your Moodboard

Share this Moodboard with your peers and design team to collaborate in real-time. The “SHARE” button can be found on the top right corner of your Moodboard.

Please note that your peers will likely share their own work with you for you to collaborate on. To browse all work that has been shared with you, go to “Shared With Me” in your main navigation bar.

Share Moodboard

Tip

Assign different roles to your team members (1. Viewer, or 2. Editor) to determine how much freedom they will have during collaboration. To find more tips on sharing please read Collaboration.

Step 2: Create a Collection

Create a Collection that you plan on releasing. A Collection is a curated list of Styles and accessories that will eventually be released together. To get started, you can visit your Dashboard and select “Create Collection”. Give your Collection a unique title that will be easy for you to recognize.

To browse all of your Collections on UpStyled Fashion, go to “My Workspace” in your main navigation bar, and select “Collections”.

Create Collection

Tip

If you already have styles saved to your UpStyled Fashion account, you can import them directly into any existing Collection. If you wish to create a new Style for this Collection, you can do so in your Collection page as well. For more tips on creating a great Collection, please visit Collections.

Share Your Collection

Share this Collection with your peers or design team to collaborate in real-time on UpStyled Fashion. The “Share” button can be found on the top right corner of your Collection page.

As we mentioned, it is likely that your designer peers will share their Collection(s) with you to hear your feedback. To browse all work that has been shared with you, go to “Shared With Me” in your main navigation bar.

Share Collection

Tip

Please note that sharing a Collection will automatically share all contents within this Collection (i.e. Moodboards, Styles & Tech Packs). For more tips on collaborating please read our Collaboration article.

Step 3: Fill Your Collection with Styles

Fill your Collection with curated Styles by either importing an existing Style from your UpStyled Fashion account, or creating a brand new Style from scratch. You can add new Styles directly from your “Collection” page, or select “Create Style” found in your Dashboard.

To browse all of your Styles saved to UpStyled Fashion, go to “My Workspace” in your main navigation bar, and select “Style Master”.

Create Style

Tip

If you wish to import a Style that already belongs to an existing Collection, you can do so by creating a duplicate of this Style. If you choose this option, two copies of this style will appear in your Style Master. For more information on the Style Master, please read our Style Master article.

Share Your Styles

At any point while creating a Style, feel free to share it with your peers or design team to receive their feedback while you work. Use our Discussion group chat feature to collaborate with your team on anything Style related. The “SHARE” button can be found in the top right corner of any Style details page.

Again, if your peers decide to share their Style(s) with you, you can find them in the “Shared With Me” tab on the top navigation bar. We encourage you to join the group discussion and offer some advice to your collaborators along the way!

Share Style

Tip

Please note that sharing a Style with your peers will automatically share the corresponding Tech Pack, if you have already created one.

Step 4: Create Your Tech Packs

Design a factory-ready Tech Pack for each of your Styles in no time! Our simple Tech Packing tool is divided into 4 sections based on industry-standard tech packs: 1. Sketches 2. Bill of Materials 3. Construction Details 4. Specifications (Specs)

If you’ve already created one on your own, you can upload your existing Tech Pack to UpStyled Fashion at any time.

Start by uploading an image of either a flat sketch, fabric/trims, or any specific garment details. Then, use our color-coded annotation tool to draw specific measurements or comments anywhere on the image. Finally, fill out your customizable table to explain the factory details of your garment.

Create Tech-Pack

Tip

We understand that Tech Packing can be an unfamiliar process, but we’re hoping to change that! To see an example of a factory-ready Tech Pack, please visit our article on Tech Packing.

Receive Feedback on Your Tech Packs

Receive tips and feedback on your Tech Pack by sharing it with your peers or design team. As always, the “SHARE” button can be found on the top right corner of your Tech Packing page. It always helps to get a second opinion, or even a fifth!

Congratulations! Tech Packing will typically be your final step before finding the perfect manufacturer to produce it. We suggest that you and your collaborators review all of your materials very carefully, prior to submitting a project, to ensure that our Manufacturers will see the best version of your ideas.

Tip

It’s entirely possible that you are using UpStyled Fashion to seek help with your Tech Pack from an industry expert. If you plan to collaborate on this Tech Pack with your manufacturer, please feel free to skip this step for now. Please note that most Manufacturers will charge you for their Tech Packing services.

Step 5: Create a Project

Once you feel confident about your work, and all materials have been successfully stored on UpStyled Fashion, it’s time to create a project! A project is your way of telling our Manufacturers which Styles to work on, when they will need to be finished, what services you’re looking for, and most importantly, your budget.

You can send out your project to our Manufacturers in one of two ways: 1) Publish the project to all Manufacturers, or 2) Browse each Manufacturer’s profile and select specific factories to send it to. Once a project has been submitted, you can always go back to make changes, or resubmit it.

Create Project

Tip

Publishing your project to all Manufacturers will increase your likelihood of finding the best collaborator. It takes the stress out of your hands and allows you to select the best offer that comes your way. For more tips, please read our blog on Projects.

Step 6: Choose Your Manufacturer

Before making the decision about which Manufacturer to work with, we recommend taking the time to review your options carefully. Determine how each inquiry stacks up against the rest, and be sure to communicate with each Manufacturer before making your decision.

Once you’ve thoroughly weighed your options, and found the Manufacturer of your dreams, it’s time to make it official. In your Messages Window, find the inquiry that you’d like to accept. Then select the “Start Project” button found in your messenger. UpStyled Fashion will automatically send a project request on your behalf. Once it’s been accepted by both sides, you can begin communicating and working on your dream project!

Start Project

Tip

To view and compare the inquiries you’ve received, please visit your Dashboard, or the Messages icon in the top right corner. You will be notified for each new inquiry you receive, as well as for messages along the way. For more tips, please read our blog on Projects.
